This is a well written mystery for upper elementary and middle school readers that includes a little known part of World War II history. The opening line, “It was the find of the century” was the perfect hook to pull me into this adventure. The characters in this novel are interesting and believable. I especially enjoyed getting to know Theo and Bodhi.
There are no easy answers for thirteen-year-old Theodora “Theo” Tenpenny as she searches for the meaning to her dying grandfather’s last words about a treasure hidden under the egg. Growing up in Greenwich Village with a brilliant, emotionally fragile mother presents its own challenges. Then add the death of her grandfather, the loss of his income, and life for Theo gets extremely hard.
What is the find of the century? What does this have to do with Theo? Can she manage on her own in Manhattan? What treasure is hidden under the egg? Read this book to find out.
(Note: Grandpa Jack was a security guard, not a janitor, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.)
